Hedley Wood Holiday Park, near Bude was the perfect base to explore this side of Cornwall, with gorgeous dog friendly beaches and coves just a short drive away.
The caravan park has a large range of dog friendly caravans, camping pitches and safari tents, we stayed in a Comfort Pet-Friendly caravan at the site which was just right for two adults and two dogs. The prices are affordable, meaning this holiday is perfect for budget friendly stays.
The staff here were friendly, warm and welcoming and helped us with any queries we had when we arrived. We felt warm and cosy in the caravan, there was lots of room for our belongings (the dogs make sure that we never pack lightly!) It was clean and welcoming, with our own car parking space right outside the door and little extras to make us feel settled straight away. We got good reception here and were even able to stream Netflix on one of the cosy nights in we had. There is also a really handy app that you can download to make orders or get information.

The site itself was lovely, clean and welcoming. We felt safe and well looked after, we had a paperless check in, meaning we just headed straight to our caravan which has been cleaned and ready for us to go with the key inside. There's also a dog shower and secure dog field too, which was amazing for a quick morning and evening run around. Although the caravan spot had large grassy areas, they weren't fenced off and dogs are to be kept on leads, making the field an ideal and really handy place to let the dogs off.
Sev and Lily were also very welcomed with treats, as well as poo bags and a bed to use- which Lily loved right by the fire place!
The bar was closed due to Covid, but was offering takeaway pizzas and a wide selection of drinks, which was perfect after a long day exploring new walks and beaches. However, the caravans come ready with a full kitchen and all the utensils and cooking equipment you need for a yummy home cooked meal - which really suits the family and budget friendly style. The campsite shop has a small range of everything you may need, and helped with milk and ice cream, however we did our "big" shop in Bude about 15mins away.
Places to visit on a Dog Friendly Caravan Holiday in Cornwall
Hedley Wood was an amazing place to explore new beaches, and we sure did that. Trying to find smaller or less known beaches, as well as more popular ones that we'd yet to visit on our Cornish trips previously.
Widemouth Bay
A gorgeous beach and the closest to Hedley Wood Holiday Park, it's long, sandy and dog friendly all year round. There were many visitors with picnics and spending their day on the beach, it was big enough to head down to the sea and have a long walk with Sev trying to join in eating anyone's food! There are a few cafe's near the beach, with outdoor spaces, as well as this further along from the beach is a gorgeous view point where we parked up on our last night to watch the sunset.
Port Isaac and Port Gaverne
A very popular little village that's picture perfect and has an array of ice creams, seafood and Cornish pasties. On our way to this popular spot, we found the most stunning little beach, it had very little parking and just a pub there. Hiring SUPs and kayaks were available too, and we'll be back to do this for sure on our next trip.

The Strangles
The Strangles was a beauty of a find, but be prepared for the hike up and down as well as a small abseil at the end to get down to the beach. It's really important to take care of tide times for this beach, so we went as low tide and had a good few hours walking around, playing in the rock pools and the dogs in and out of the sea. The gorgeous greenery on the cliffs overlooking the beach is a great place to stop for the picnic on the way up.
This beach isn't shown of Google, but there is a National Trust carpark.

Crackington Haven
A lovely little pebbled beach which was the most beautiful spot for sunset and an evening swim too. There is also a lovely cafe here, and later in the week we booked for a BBQ which they seem to have through the Weekends in warmer weather.
Polzeath & Greenaway Beach
Polzeath is a gorgeous dog friendly beach, filled with lots of swimmers and surfers, as well as a town with shops and cafes. We did the short walk along the coastal path to Greenaway Beach too, which was a lot less busy and had some wonderful rock pools.

Sandymouth
Another gorgeous spot for sunset, the dogs loved this walk as there were lots of green open spaces for them to zoom around in. It wasn't too crowded or busy and the sea looked beautiful from the heights that we walked to. There does look to be livestock in some places, so be careful with this before letting dogs off.
